Oh, the things I do…

When N was helping me edit Under Order he got to a section where my protagonist was told to do a three minute wall sit.

“Three minutes?” N asked. “Is that even possible?”

Do you know what a wall sit is? You must place your body against a sturdy wall and squat down. Your feet should be planted firmly on the floor in front of you, directly below your knees. Your knees form a ninety degree angle. Incidentally, this exercise is great for strengthening your thighs.

N and I both tried to do a three minute wall-sit and I failed miserably. Three minutes became thirty seconds for my poor, overly abused protagonist.

Writing erotica, especially in the BDSM genre, makes me have to think through the various scenarios I create and wonder how realistic they are. With some scenarios (especially in short stories), I believe a certain amount of unrealistic fun can actually strengthen a scene. With other scenarios I know that being unrealistic will only be distracting for the reader.

So I occasionally find myself setting my computer aside to test out a particular bondage scenario or spanking scene. The last scene, which inspired this post, involved me tying my right hand to my left foot and my left hand to my right foot. As I suspected, it is quite easy to get into a kneeling pose tied like that.

I just had to try it to be sure. 😉 It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it.

  1. I know what you mean! I’ve used use dolls, furniture, my partner, and/or a measuring tape to check the realism of scenes I’m writing. I even did this at a play party more than once. Reading something markedly unrealistic is a turn-off for me.
